A True Follower of Jesus Would Never Celebrate Halloween

Luke 10

Like most believers, I was once ignorant thinking it was okay to celebrate this event. Mainly because working for a global US company for many years, it was considered a norm. It also gave employees a chance to dress up and take their kids to work and enjoy “trick or treat.”

Truth be told, I allowed my kids to participate before. Not superstitious, I thought it was harmless.

Looking back at an incident in 2007, in celebration of halloween, my team invited a group of fortune tellers onsite to increase employee engagement and participation. Prior the start of the event, one of my team members introduced me to them and asked that I participate for fun. Being ignorant that I was, I did.

Oddly though, I was passed on from one person to another until I reached the last person at the farthest end, an old lady who led the group. She looked at my hand, then my face. Then she became quietly deep in thought. Suddenly, she looked up to my face and said, “I cannot read your hand or your future. None of us can.”

I did not think much of the incident and simply dismissed it.

It was only in 2016, after my personal encounter with the Lord Jesus, that my spiritual eyes got opened. I realized that Satan and demons are real. They only want to inflict harm on as many people as they can, stealing, killing and destroying all that is good from God for us.

The more I grew closer to the Lord and knew more about His nature through the Holy Spirit who works in and through me, the more that I got convicted why halloween should not be celebrated.

Deuteronomy 18:10-12
“Let no one be found among you who sacrifices their son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord; because of these same detestable practices the Lord your God will drive out those nations before you.”

It is very clear in the Scripture, as heirs of the Divine Kingdom of Jesus Christ, we should not partake into anything that the Lord detests.

Ephesians 6:12-17
“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”

It dawned on me, that the reason why these fortune tellers could not touch me, was because I have Jesus Christ’s seal in me. I am protected by the blood of Jesus Christ and I have His righteousness in me.

Simply put – a true follower of Jesus Christ would never celebrate halloween!

1. Jesus speaks Life, NOT death.
2. Jesus operates through unconditional love, NOT fear.
3. Glorify the power of the Blood of Jesus Christ that set us free, rather than, glorify something detestable in God’s sight.
4. Celebrate “victory in Jesus at the cross,” NOT halloween which is a sacred holiday for the Wiccans (the official religion of witchcraft).
5. Proclaim deliverance in Jesus, instead of giving the tiniest attention Satan, who caused us to be separated from God in the first place.

Halloween has made us desensitized about how abominable the occult really is. There is nothing cute and funny about dressing ourselves, and worse, our kids like the devil, witches, ghosts and other scary characters.

Believe me when I say that in the deliverance ministry,  I have witnessed first hand, how people slither, vomit and hurt themselves because they were possessed by demons. It is not something you would want for anyone to experience. It is not right for devil worshippers to prey  and put curses, sicknesses, pains and bondages on people.

Some may think that I am a ridiculous overreacting Christian. But knowing what I now know, I want others to know that the amount of damage Satan can bring into people’s lives is very costly, when given a foothold.

It is my prayer is that those who read the article, would get convicted by the Holy Spirit of truth. For everyone’s spiritual eyes be opened to see how ugly, detestable and abominable these principalities truly are.

Let us stop justifying this demonic event. There are no gray areas about it. A true follower of Jesus Christ will never partake in something that the Lord detests.

Halloween is that day of the year where darkness is celebrated. So let Jesus’ light in us shine brightest so they may glorify our Father in heaven.

Let us give God the glory and the devil a beating he so deserves. Reach out to people more and share the good news about Jesus Christ.

Next time a kid says “trick or treat,” give the best gift one can ever receive, Jesus!

Share and Enjoy !
